Scaling the Acoustic Peaks
Key Concepts:
-
Current generation of experiments measure the fine
scale structure of the CMB temperature maps
-
Explosion of new data in recent years have ushered
in the age of precision cosmology
Naturally then, the goal of CMB experiments after
COBE has been to increase the angular resolution of the maps and study
the small scale features in the power spectrum.
There has been an explosion
of data in recent years that measure the degree
scale structure of the CMB temperature across relatively large patches
of sky at a high signal-to-noise. Two recent experiments, the Boomerang
and Maxima experiments are shown below:
Experiments like these have ushered in a new age
of precision cosmology.
